MARKET SQUARE
EVENTS
TAKE PART
For 10 weeks in the summer of 2010, Northampton's streets, parks and open spaces will be taken over by some unusual visitors...5ft high lions!
Pride of Northampton is a mass appeal, public art event. Businesses, community groups, education establishments and individuals sponsor a lion sculpture. Artists are then commissioned to paint, decorate and adorn each sculpture into a unique work of art.
The lions will be displayed around Northampton town centre for 10 weeks during summer 2010, acting as a significant tourist draw while also encouraging residents to become a "tourist in their town". At the end of the project, each sculpture is auctioned off and a significant proportion of the proceeds are donated to charity. Pride of Northampton is an opportunity for business, community, arts and charity to work together and engage in a project that will give Northamptonshire something to be proud of.
There are benefits both in driving footfall to Northampton and raising the county's profile on a local, regional and national level.
